Curriculum

Our Curriculum

Intent

Through our curriculum, we encourage our children to be adventurous learners who are curious, courageous and ask questions about the world they live in. Our curriculum ensures our children are motivated to become effective lifelong learners.

The curriculum is all the planned activities that we organise in order to facilitate the development of our children. The children’s personal and social education is at the heart of our curriculum and we believe that the development of children as individuals, with their own strengths, interests and aspirations is paramount. We believe that in order for children to become effective citizens, they need to have an understanding of both the wider world and their local community.

Implementation

At Fordingbridge Infant and Junior Schools Federation, we have developed an exciting, relevant and balanced curriculum which gives children a wide range of experiences and opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and learning powers they need to succeed. Our Federation motto ‘Believe Strive Achieve’ is one of encouraging personal endeavour and determination to be the best they can be. Through the curriculum, we believe all children can develop a growth mindset enabling each child to independently challenge themselves and problem solve.

We have high expectations of literacy and numeracy skills for every child ensuring they are equipped to go on learning forever.  The curriculum is taught through learning units lasting for half a term, in which relevant subjects are combined to help develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding around a common theme. Cross-curricular links are made where they are appropriate, however this approach is not always possible and therefore specific subjects are taught discretely when required. Meaningful, relevant learning lasts a life time and because of this we ensure where possible learning opportunities are found within and about the local area in which our children live.

The whole curriculum includes not only formal requirements of the national curriculum, but also the range of enrichment and extra-curricular experiences planned to benefit and enhance all children’s experiences of and within the world.

Impact

A love of learning is the biggest gift a school can bestow. At Fordingbridge  Infant and Junior School Federation our curriculum strives to produce children who can think for themselves, are resilient and are able to face the challenges placed upon them in their next stage of life. Our curriculum enables children to develop self-belief, strive for their best and believe they can achieve.

At Fordingbridge Junior and Infant Schools Federation all class teachers are responsible for providing a curriculum that is suitable for all pupils in the class, including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with support from the SENCo. We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Our inclusion statement emphasises the importance of providing an inclusive learning environment for all pupils including those with SEND. Additional information on this can be found in our Special Education Needs Information Report and Equalities Policy.

Cognitive Curriculum Development

Primary curriculum is not only about cognitive development but also about developing physically, emotionally, socially and creatively. The Primary Curriculum is immersive and omnipresent. It is in every playtime, assembly, visit, visitor, play, sports day, responsibility role given to the children, display, certificate, sticker and interaction with other people. THIS IS THE FULL CURRICULUM.

For further details about our curriculum, please contact the school office who will put you in touch with the relevant member of staff.
